iLostPet is a free website and iPhone and Android app that connects people who've lost a pet with people nearby who've found or seen one. It puts every report on one map, alerts people near you, and lets them talk privately, so nobody has to post a phone number or name online. Its Pet Life tab finds vets, shelters and help close to home.

How it works

  1. 1

    Post a report

Lost, found or just spotted: add two photos, species, breed, microchip number and where it happened.

  2. 2

    Neighbors are alerted

People within their chosen radius get a notification right away, then a single 8 AM summary of pets still looking. Alerts wait out quiet hours.

  3. 3

    Matches surface

Found pets are compared with lost ones by species, looks, distance, time and microchip, and likely matches are flagged.

  4. 4

    Talk privately, reunite

Messages go through iLostPet. Once the pet is home, mark it Reunited and share how it happened.

Two photos, full screen

Reports, sightings and saved pets each take two photos. Tap any photo to see it full size and zoom in on markings.

Daily summary and holiday reminders

One morning alert lists pets near you that still need help. Safety reminders go out before July 4th, Halloween and New Year's Eve, when pets most often bolt.

Add sightings

Saw a lost dog run past? Add a sighting so the owner sees the trail on a map.

Share a flyer

Every report gets a share link with a photo preview for social media and a printable poster with a QR code.

Save your pets ahead of time

Keep photos, details and microchip numbers in My Pets, so a lost report takes seconds.

Read and share reunited stories

Owners can add how their pet got home, which gives others hope and practical ideas.

Privacy and safety

  • Names stay private. Only moderators see who posted; everyone else sees "the owner", "the finder" or "Helper #12".
  • Phone numbers are shown only to the poster and moderators.
  • Found pets and sightings show an approximate area, within about half a mile, so finders can report from home.
  • Anyone can report a post or message. Moderators review them, hide scams and can turn off messaging for bad actors.
  • Block anyone, lock the app with Face ID or your phone's fingerprint or screen lock, and never send money before seeing the pet in person.
